Finding the Balance

They say we should live in the moment but I am not entirely sure about that philosophy. How can we find balance if we are not putting different elements on the scale at different times and is that not a conscious decision?

I agree we must give all of our attention to the task at hand and I think this is something many people struggle to do. It is hard to concentrate. It takes some effort to stay focused. It does not come naturally or easily. That is what living in the moment means to me but I think we need to pay attention to decisions we make in our daily lives to try to create more balance.

So how do we do that? I shall never forget the moment when I started my studies at IIN and they spoke about balancing four elements in our lives: career, relationships, spirituality and physical exercise. This was a real eye opener for me. When I am feeling overwhelmed with my life I look at what is out of balance and I know that is the area that I need to focus on.

Career and relationships are somewhat diametrically opposed and again one must make conscious decisions to find the balance. Work time or relationship time? That is the question we need to ask ourselves sometimes. Quite often it is work that takes over and becomes the priority. Sometimes it is important to put friends and family first. It is that simple. Intuitively we know what the right answer is but too often we ignore our intuition.

I had no idea what they meant about spirituality when I first started studying at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in 2014, but since that time I have developed a spiritual practice through my yoga and it is one of the most fulfilling parts of my life. Yoga is not a religion but depending how you develop your practice it can be very spiritual and this was the bit that was missing from my life.

Finally, physical exercise must be present throughout ones life for the body is meant to move and it is the easiest way to maintain physical and mental health. The more you do the more you want to do. It needs to be part of a daily or weekly practice. It will make you feel so much better and you will find it easier to handle the stresses of everyday life.

I realise the importance of finding balance in my life and I hope to be able to help others do the same. I will be offering a treatment program including massage and yoga on a one to one basis. It is so important to take time for yourself. It allows you to tap into your intuition and this ultimately helps you make better decisions and create more balance. Lets work on that together. Bedgebury Forest Yoga

Monday the 13th August was an auspicious day for me. I decided to go live with an idea I have about bringing yoga to Bedgebury. I think Bedgebury has a special magic and it suits yoga well. It is my dream to bring more wellness into Bedgebury and this is the first step.

We have launched the facebook page and are updating social media accounts to get the message out there. We are working on the studio and intend to launch our opening class on the 23rd September.

The class will be led by a teacher I am collaborating with who is living onsite. I am thrilled to be able to work alongside Sumit. Please get in touch if you are interested in finding out more.

Or sign up opposite and we will keep you up to date with developments and class dates and times.

My Journey into Yoga

I can still remember the first time I did yoga. I was in Mauritius staying at an aryuvedic spa hotel called the Shanti Maurice. I was not in a very good place. I was going through lots of stuff. I needed to get away. I wanted to go somewhere different and somewhere that inspired me.

I went onto a travel website and found the Shanti Maurice. I had a beautiful room overlooking the Indian Ocean and I walked out every morning and felt an incredible sense of gratitude.

I found it all terribly fascinating. I remember going to the outdoor yoga studio with a couple of other people and following the instruction of the yogic teacher. Afterwards, I felt very calm and centered.

I do lots of exercise and experiment with lots of different sports but what intrigued me the most with yoga was the connection to the breath. Connecting to the breath allowed everything to quieten and I found stillness.

I am eternally grateful. It has changed my life.

How did I get here?

I am sitting at the kitchen table at the moment at Pennybridge at a detox retreat listening to amazing meditation music and watching Brydie, the chef, prepare the most amazing detox meals for our guests. I am wondering how I got here.

I am working with Emily from Amaveda. We met at a networking meeting in London. It was a bizarre set of circumstances and I think we both knew that there was more to this encounter than met the eye.

Emily’s knowledge of the healing properties of food is endless as only a life time of learning can create. I was fascinated by her career choice as soon as she told me and I suggested to her in the first moments of our meeting that I would love to work with her.

Two months later we have collaborated together to host this retreat and, as I sit here, I marvel at the energy which is flowing through the house and ultimately into each one of us who is involved. We have nine beautiful guests. Each one brings there own point of view on life and conversations around the dinner table are truly inspirational.

Emily has put together an amazing team. She convinced Brydie to leave her sixteen month old baby for the first time (with her husband) and come and cook for us. Emily worked with Brydie in Brighton years ago and Emily recognised a kindred spirit…someone truly passionate about ingredients, creativity and esthectics. The plates are beautiful, delicious and, on top of everything else, healthy. The dishes are inspired by macrobiotics and ayruveda traditions.

The yoga teacher, Clive from Hello Yoga, has organised the classes to reflect the mood of the group. We have had the option of meditative, restorative, or flow/energetic practices. He recites beautiful poetry and it has been fascinating to spend time with him and learn more about his journey onto this path of enlightenment.

Rachel is an amazing massage therapist. She has not stopped and each and every guest has enjoyed the the gift which she possesses and shares with each of her clients.

The guests have enjoyed spending time in the spa/pool building. It is a beautiful space and it is hard not to let all your worries and stresses disappear as you relax in the hot tub, sauna, steam room or do lengths in the pool.

As the hostess I am trying to be as helpful as possible to both the team and the guests. This is something I have dreamed of doing. I have been to many retreats before and have wondered about what it would be like to be involved in one from the other side. I can tell you…it is hard work.

Open the Door

Time is money or so they told me at the gathering of entrepreneurs I attended in London last week. It is an interesting time for me at the moment as I am restructuring my business interests in order to ‘make money”. Continue Reading

Time alone

It is highly unusual for a woman to be completely immersed in a domestic career and then have a complete about face. That is what happened to me. I was married for twenty years and had three children. It was a very busy time in my life. Then I  got divorced and the children grew up. Now I am on my own. I think this experience gives me a unique perspective on life and I hope to be able to help others who might experience something similar through bereavement or other life changing experiences.
